Linksys’ E1200 router is a popular, affordable router for home use. Once it’s connected to the ISP’s modem and one home computer, it’s important to log into the router and configure it.
The default IP address for the Linksys E1200 is usually 192.168.1.1 network. If it isn’t 192.168.1.1, it may be 192.168.0.1. When connected, the default login and password should both be “admin.” After entering this information, users are taken to a simple interface used to configure the router. The most recommended tasks once logged in are setting up wireless, changing the admin password and changing the default IP address.
A key reason for the Linksys E1200’s popularity is how easy it is to set up wireless. Once users have decided their wireless network name, password and encryption type, these are all easily set under the E1200’s “Wireless” tab.
Since a router’s default name and password are commonly known, it’s a good idea to change them. This is a simple configure change. It is done by accessing the “Security” tab from the main page of the interface when logged in.
Just as default passwords are widely known, so is the router’s IP address, which is typically 192.168.1.1. This should be changed for better security. This is also an easy fix. The E1200 IP address is listed right on the main page when logged in. Once changed, the router will reboot and come back online with the new address.
